Adulting is hard...

It's been a hot minute since my last post but I've been a little busy plus the last day I worked was a fucking doozy and I needed the physical, mental and emotional rest afterwards...Tonight though, I was redoing my annual enrollment for my health insurance for work (also, I'm glad Austin informed me enrolling is something that I had to do every year otherwise I wouldn't have insurance next year šŸ˜… yikes 😐) and there's the option to sign up for a bunch of different "add-ons" life insurance included.

I didn't need to sign up for that add on because back in July (I don't know why) but I got to thinking about how I needed to sign up for life insurance in case something unexpected happened to me like what happened to mom. I think life insurance is a good thing to have but my god, how morbid is it to be paying for something that will be dispersed to others in the event of your death. It's crazy. As I'm looking over my documents though I see after the 30 year mark (by which time I will be 62 -- 🤯🄓🤢 -- I don't even like thinking that far ahead; it makes my head hurt) the annual premium starts to go up.

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense that it would go up but I don't recall anyone telling me it would. I was thinking it would be a fixed rate for my whole life (or the whole time I'm paying for it). And each year after it gets progressively higher. By year 63 (I will be 95. If i make it that long) the annual premium will be $164,172.50. That's $13,681/month. Bruh...My 95 year old ass ain't gonna be able to afford that shit! If I do ever have kids they better hope they got their shit together by the age of 30 because mama's cancelling that shit and using that yearly payment to go on a vacation.

I've also heard of people getting life insurance and "cashing it out" before they pass so they can enjoy it? Which to me sounds like a better deal honestly because at least then you'd be able to get your money's worth out of all those years of paying in. I don't know if that's actually a thing but it sounds pretty nice lol.

On top of looking at my life insurance info I've also been looking at my monthly spending which, truthfully, is more than I'd like it to be. But budgeting is hard especially when you want to "treat yo' self" like ALL THE TIME. I don't think I ever realized how much money I spend until I sat down and added it all up. So with that being said I'm going to try to sit down and write out a budget so that maybe I can save some damn money to eventually buy a house (if this housing market and the interest rates ever chill TF out).

When I think about all that, my thoughts just compound on top of one another. Like, the life insurance and my health and how I need to start eating better and exercising (I would say more but that would imply that I exercise at all and that's simply not true 😶), and how I need to budget my money so that instead of spending so much every month I can save for a house and maybe a nice vacation a few times a year, and then of course I do the opposite of beneficial thinking and ruminate in the past and think "Wow, if I had just saved $5,000/year (approximately 417/month) from the time I was 18 years old I would have $70,000 saved up by now" and then that thought depresses me. Then I go on amazon and stress shop and start the spending cycle over again...fuck...Adulting is hard, man.

(I get the same feeling as a nurse šŸ˜…)

I'm just gonna sit here and (try to) be present and pet my Bean (don't be fucking dirty; this is my Bean [see photo dump of cute Boston Terrier below])

This is way out in left field from the above subject (it's where my mind bounced to) but you know what makes me CRINGE but is also like a train wreck, like I want to look away but I can't. The people on TikTok making the NPC (non-playable character) videos. It grosses me out and fascinates me at the same time and if I had no shame I'd do it but I'm pretty sure I'd die from embarrassment the moment I posted the video. I mean I already get second hand embarrassment from watching the videos, I can't IMAGINE the embarrassment I'd feel posting one myself. But apparently they make good money from it. There is one girl PinkyDoll who apparently makes about $10,000/day (Are you FUCKING kidding me?!?).So if you ever see me on TikTok doing some cringey ass trend I'm trying to make money so mind ya business šŸ˜….

Morals of the story:

  • Start saving now, even if it's just a little bit because 10+ years will go by so fast

  • Consider a life insurance policy, if for no other reason than to cash it out and blow it all on yourself šŸ˜…. (Jk...or am I??šŸ¤”)

  • Learn to adult as soon as possible because it doesn't get easier learning how to the older you get.

  • "Treat yo' self" sometimes but not all the time, because if you do it daily it isn't actually a "treat".

  • Learn how to budget.

  • Learn how to manage your stress in other ways than spending money because if you don't you'll be broke, very quickly. (Yes, I'm talking to you. Get out of target, you don't need anything. Get off amazon too. And stop buying the "TikTok viral products" you know you don't need it)

  • Eat well and exercise often

  • Pay attention to the housing market and interest rates.

  • Get a Boston Terrier. They have stinky farts, snore like a granddad and have more energy than a toddler that just ate a bag full of pixy stix but they are the cutest and sweetest pups around. (Giant Schnauzers are pretty great too)

  • Cringey TikTok content is apparently where the money's at.
